...the big thing in my office is an upgrade to the inventory and time clock software! WOOOOOO

We still use home-brewed software from 20 years ago as our main inventory software.

We just upgraded the time clock SW we use for our stores to a cloud based system, it is immeasurably worse than the old server based system we used to use, I now spend more time dealing with issues with it than anything else. It’s 3rd party managed now and was meant to remove all issues for us to deal with, BULLSHIT!

Our inventory management software probably runs on internals from 20 years ago. Oh, but the new GUI has soft colors and breaks things out into softly-shaded three-tier subhed boxes instead of using organizational trees now!

We’re still server-based, I’m afraid. No remote locations other than contractors, who don’t need the rest of the suite (inventory, production, etc.). Being server based *has not* meant it plays nice all the time, what with some client/server mismatch issues and some delightful episodes of self-corrupting files.

What kind of upgrade does time clock software need?

Nothin’, according to seeing it on other people’s machines. It just happens to be part of the whole suite of software. I think they added soft light effects on the same ‘ol buttons, but I’m not even sure. Any actual upgrade to that is
subtle,
man, to the point I’m not sure that it upgraded at all, other than my direct link to the time-clock as part of the suite doesn’t work until our IT guy comes around to install the new client version of everything.

You’re a lucky man, in the old days if there was an issue with clocks not polling all we did was remote onto one of the DCM servers and restart a few services, now we phone a call centre in the US, struggle to speak to the right person, only to be told all looks from their end, when it obviously isn’t, then 6 hours later they find the problem and take the entire system down for 5 hours trying to fix it, it’s awful!

That’s perfectly normal. The equipment we sell is backward compatible all the way back to the stone age. Everything connects with RS-232, and we’re now working on better
modbus
implementation or something. Oooooh.

We’re used to having to give the old server a kick once in a while, that’s about it.

We are supposed to get a new timecard system, that doesn’t have MSSQL server timeouts or deadlocks every time you want to do something.

We mostly just have delays and stubbornness.
